The OBHS Esports program welcomed a very special guest on Thursday, May 7th, as the New Jersey Devils’ mascot, NJ Devil, visited Old Bridge High School as part of the organization’s growing Devils Gaming Group initiative.
The visit brought together OBHS Esports students, varsity esports team members, and members of the OBHS Hockey Team for an afternoon full of gaming, community, and Devils spirit. Students had the opportunity to play games such as NHL, Rocket League, Mario Kart, and more alongside NJ Devil inside the OBHS Esports lab.
The Devils Gaming Group is the New Jersey Devils’ esports and gaming initiative designed to connect hockey fans and gamers through competitive gaming, live events, online tournaments, and interactive experiences. The program includes the Devils Gaming Group Esports Lounge at Prudential Center, community gaming tournaments, special fan events, and NJ Devil’s traveling gaming setup that visits schools and events throughout New Jersey.
During the visit, NJ Devil spent time gaming directly with students, taking photos, interacting with teams, and creating an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. The atmosphere inside the esports lab was electric as students competed, laughed, and shared their passion for gaming with one of New Jersey’s most recognizable mascots.
In addition to gaming, NJ Devil also brought plenty of free swag for students including Devils Gaming Group shirts, hats, lanyards, foam hockey pucks, and drawstring bags. Students also enjoyed pizza from G'Zepps, who generously helped support the event.
Shoutout to G’Zepps for not only having some of the best pizza around, but for always supporting the OBHS Esports program and its students.
The visit showcased the growing connection between traditional sports organizations and esports while giving students a chance to experience firsthand how professional teams are embracing gaming culture and esports communities.
Most importantly, students had an incredible time meeting NJ Devil and bonding over their shared love of gaming and competition.
One thing was made very clear throughout the event though:
No Flyers/Gritty or Rangers fans allowed in the esports lab that day.
